Feeling down?
Want to feel better?

Serve.
Cheer someone up.

Offer words of encouragement and a smile.

I work with the girls at my church who are ages 11-18 and we have a weekly activity.
This week, with all that is going on in our community, we decided to do some service.

We spent the evening listening to music & chatting while we made hearts for heart attacking someone, making uplifting notes and cards to hand out to kids at school (or anywhere) and a “sunshine” box for a family who lost their son/ brother.

The mood in the room, went from quiet to cheerful chatter and some laughing.
The air felt lighter.
And by the end of the evening everyone was ready to spread cheer and light to others.
It was infectious.

My heart was the most cheerful it has been since last Friday morning.

I was able to deliver the “sunshine” box to my friend and along with another friend, do weeding for her.
My heart was sad but also full.

Serving is divine.

It lifts the weary soul.
It brightens the mood.
it soothes the aching heart, even if just for a time.
And it increases love and gratitude.

It doesn’t have to be a lot.
It could be a smile,
or a note of encouragement.

It could be a hug or an act of kindness.
It could be work or labor for another person,
or a text or phone call.

If you are struggling,
try to find someone you can lift.

And you will be lifted too.
