Here in the PNW we joke a lot about the weather. It likes to change. A LOT.
If you check the weather ahead of time, you should also check it again immediately beforehand and then still pack a hoodie, rain coat, beanie, sunscreen and sunglasses, just in case.
That happened this morning.
We left home to completely overcast skies and rain. When I left church it was a little breezy and still quite cloudy. By the time I came out of the baby shower it was sunny and bright with hardly a cloud in the sky.
There have been too many times where I totally space planning ahead, checking the weather and I don’t even look out the window before rushing out the door. And that doesn’t work too well.
And there are other times where I bring all the things because the “weather says” and then end up not needing any of it.
Mom life is similar.
We try to plan ahead and to think ahead… to guess what might happen or try to prevent “bad things” from happening to our children.
But there is no guarantee and sometimes whatever you feel is being “forecasted,” gives you a false sense of security. Thinking that you can control things. Thinking that you do know what might happen and what you can do.
But life, especially with kids, is like the weather in the PNW.
Unpredictable and uncontrollable.
So how do you prepare? How do you be ready?
If you have the right gear and you’ll be ready for anything.
What is the ‘gear’ you need as a mom?
Well, what keeps you mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy?
Here’s a list of some of my gear that helps me be ready for anything:
Reading the Scriptures
Daily Exercising
Prayer
Thoughtwork/Mindfulness Exercises
Fresh Air/Going outside
Volleyball (hobby)
Friends
A Good Night’s Sleep
What helps me be prepared may not be the best things for you. Everyone’s ‘gear’ varies.
But it is important to know what you need.
What are your go-to’s that help you be ready for anything?
What lifts you and helps you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually?
